Joheshaphat replied, "I am as you are, and my
people as your people; we will join you in the war." 18:3
Footnote: Wicked Ahab asked Jehoshaphat to join forces
with him in battle. Before making that commitment, Jehoshaphat rightly sought
God's advice. However, when God gave his answer through the prophet Micaiah,
Jehoshaphat ignored it. It does us no good to seek God's advice if we ignore it
when it is given. Real love for God is shown not by merely asking for
direction, but by following that direction once it is
given.
But someone drew his bow at random and hit the
king of Israel between the sections of his armor. The king told the chariot
driver, "Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I've been wounded."
18:33
Footnote: Micaiah prophesied death for Ahab, so Ahab
disguised himself to fool the enemy. Apparently the disguise worked, but that
didn't change the prophecy. A random Aramean arrow found a crack in his armor
and killed him. God fulfills his will despite the defenses people try to
erect. God can use anything, even an error, to bring his will to pass. This is
good news for God's followers because we can trust him to work his plans and
keep his promises no matter how desperate our circumstances are.
