He went on "What comes out of a man is what makes
him 'unclean.' For from within, out of men's hearts come evil thoughts, sexual
immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy,
slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man
'unclean.' " 7:20-23
Footnote: An evil action begins with a single
thought. Allowing our minds to dwell on lust, envy, hatred, or revenge
will lead to sin. Don't defile yourself by focusing on evil. Instead, follow
Paul's advice in Philippians 4:8 and think about what is true, noble, right,
pure, lovely and admirable.
During those days another large crowd gathered.
Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I
have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and
have nothing to eat. If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way,
because some of them have come a long distance." 8:1-3
Footnote: Do you ever feel that God is so busy with
important concerns that he can't possibly be aware of your needs? Just as Jesus
was concerned about these people's need for food, he is concerned about our
daily needs. At another time Jesus said, "So do not worry, saying, "What shall
we eat?" or "What shall we drink?" or "What shall we wear?".....your heavenly
Father knows that you need them" (Matthew 6:31,32). Do you have concerns that
you think would not interest God? There is nothing too large for him to handle
and no need too small to escape his interest.
